Brief Biography

I am a 4th generation farmer and currently Managing Director of Jachmann Farming Pty Ltd, which owns and operates 6,000 ha southeast of Loxton in the Riverland and 1,200 ha on Kangaroo Island, South Australia.

My great grandfather originally settled on a small portion of the Loxton farm nearly a century ago in the mid 1920s. My grandfather acquired additional neighbouring land, followed by my father and mother, who continued to grow the Jachmann land holding. In 2000 Jachmann Farming Pty Ltd was formed by myself and my brother and our wives to purchase and operate adjoining land holding, then later acquired and taking over full operation of the Loxton property.

In 2006 I was keen to drought proof, grow and diversify the business from primarily cereal cropping, with 1,200 merino ewes, in a marginal rainfall area. After researching farming areas throughout South Australia, I drove the diversification of the Jachmann Farming by purchasing a prime lamb production property on Kangaroo Island, running approximately 5,000 cross breeding ewes and setting up a feedlot in Loxton.

Why are you seeking a position on the Livestock SA Board?

As I've been directly involved in the industry as a livestock producer for many years, I feel that I'm able to relate and engage with producers and help with strategies and planning to help industry move forward. I also feel that previously being on the LambEx 24 Committee was a great opportunity for me to give back to the industry that has supported myself and my family and would like to think that I would bring a similar value to Livestock SA.

How will you represent the interests of SA’s red meat and wool producers and the broader livestock industry?

As a lamb or wool producer, I have first-hand experience in the unique challenges and opportunities faced by our industry. My understanding of both the red meat and wool sectors equips me to effectively represent the interests of our producers. I am committed to advocating for policies and practices that benefit our members and the broader livestock industry. I will prioritise addressing the issues that matter most to Livestock SA members aligning with Livestock SA's 5 key pillars.

Additionally, I have a vision for a resilient and prosperous future for South Australia’s livestock industry. I aim to ensure that we adapt to changing market demands and environmental conditions while maintaining the highest standards of quality and innovation. By leveraging my experience and commitment, I will work tirelessly to advance the interests of SA's red meat and wool producers.
