Livestock SA AGM and Industry Dinner Celebrates Milestones and Future Leaders
South Australian red meat and wool producers gathered yesterday for the Livestock SA 2024 Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Industry Dinner, held at the Adelaide Pavilion.
The AGM provided members with a comprehensive review of the organisation’s performance over the past financial year and results from the recent member elected Board Director positions were announced, with Lachie Seears from Conmurra and Mary Rowe from Coolillie successful.
The board appointed Marla cattle producer Gillian Fennell as the new Livestock SA Chair, marking a significant milestone for the organisation as its first female chair.
During the industry dinner, retiring board members were acknowledged and thanked for their service to the organisation and the broader industry:
- Joe Keynes (President, 10 years), recognised for his leadership and contributions to other industry groups including Primary Producers’ SA, WoolProducers Australia, Rabbit Free Australia, the Drought Hub Advisory Group and the SA Dog Fence Rebuild Committee.
- Allan Piggott (Vice President, 9 years), recognised for his dedication to the organisation as well as responsibilities with Sheep Producers Australia and the SA Animal Welfare Advisory Committee
- Glen Tilley (5 years), recognised for his contribution to the organisation as well as responsibilities on the WoolProducers Australia Board.
- Richie Kirkland (4 years), recognised his contribution to the organisation as well as significant work with WoolTAG and the shearing industry.
New Livestock SA Chair, Gillian Fennell acknowledged the enormous collective contribution the retiring directors had made and welcomed the new directors joining the board.
“Our retiring directors are some of the most committed industry representatives I have had the pleasure of working with.”
“I would also like to congratulate and welcome new board members Lachie Seears and Mary Rowe who join continuing board members Anthony Hurst, Samantha Neumann, Mark Dennis, Leonie Mills and Colin Trengove.”
“I am honoured they have put their trust in me to lead the organisation through its next phase.”
Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) Managing Director, Mick Crowley was the keynote speaker at the Industry Dinner, providing strategic insights into current market conditions and opportunities for red meat, as well as the key research and marketing areas MLA is currently progressing to take the industry forward.
The 2024 Livestock SA Biosecurity Farmer of the Year was also presented to Jamie Heinrich who accepted the award on behalf of Ella Matta Pastoral in recognition of their dedication to exemplary biosecurity practices.
The 2024 recipients of the Future Livestock Leaders Program, Jarred Hutchison and Alisha Carter, were also presented with certificates for completing the organisation’s weeklong annual young leaders development program.
