Livestock SA welcomes the review of the State’s mining legislation, however is disappointed that the Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Act 2000 is not included in this Review. The current Mining Act 1971 is intent on giving the mining industry easy land access rights, with landowners either not mentioned or added as an afterthought in the act. Pastoral landowners are among the first and most directly affected by the activities of the mining industry. To improve land access, consideration needs to be given to how this can be done fairly so that everyone benefits, whilst still abiding by biosecurity restrictions.
