Elke Hocking
Blueprint Chair / SA Livestock Consultant
With over 20 years’ experience within the livestock industry, Elke currently works as a private livestock consultant, involved in extension and adoption programs for red meat and wool producers. Elke has a Masters’ Degree in Agricultural Science from the University of Adelaide and has previously worked for the Beef CRC in NSW and PIRSA Rural Solutions, SA.
Based in the South East of SA, Elke also runs a prime lamb and beef cattle enterprise along with her husband and has farming interests on the Fleurieu Peninsula and Kangaroo Island with her parents’ beef cattle and wool enterprises. Elke is the public officer for the SA Livestock Consultants group, SA Sheep and Beef Industry Blueprint working group member and sits on the Southern Australia Livestock Research Council (SALRC) as well as on MLA’s Producer Adoption Reference Group.
Elke is passionate about producers being able to profitably and sustainably produce high yielding beef and lamb that meets consumers’ expectations in terms of eating quality, nutrition and safety through the adoption of new technology, best practice production systems, value based trading and a positive, professional approach to business. "I am excited by the priorities set by the 2030 SA Sheep Industry Blueprint and am confident that having this plan will support the SA sheep industry to attract funding and collaborative projects that will foster future growth in all sectors of the SA sheep industry supply chain."
