The South Australian Arid Lands Natural Resources Management Board and the Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources are currently updating the Water Allocation Plan (WAP) for the Far North Prescribed Wells Area. The Far North Water Allocation Plan manages the allocation and use of groundwater resources in the area. The plan considers the needs of all water users, including the environment, and the rules for water management are based on balancing these needs.
As part of the process producers from the region have been asked to complete a short survey. The South Australian Arid Lands Natural Resources Management Board and the Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources would like them to contribute their local knowledge, understanding, and interest in the management of the groundwater resources of the area, to help identify what the community values most about these water resources, and what they think the biggest threats to these water resources are? GAB springs (mound springs) are also part of the groundwater system being discussed.
The current water allocation plan has been in place since 2009 and NRM have just completed the revision of the Regional Plan which has provided some valuable information from community members about the groundwater resources of the Far North.
