Livestock SA is seeking the support of the South Australian Government regarding its concerns over changes to the National Bovine Johne’s Disease Program, particularly the disbandment of the Australian Johne’s Disease Market Assurance Program for Cattle (CattleMAP) from November 1.

Sheep industry blueprint fosters research collaborations
The SA Sheep Industry Blueprint is focused on increasing the value and production of the sheep industry by 20 percent in the next five years. Several projects are underway to help achieve this overarching target.

National wool declarations give market confidence
Together with WoolProducers Australia, Livestock SA is encouraging growers to take time and fill out the AWEX National Wool Declaration. This is an initiative of the industry to consolidate critical information about the Australian wool clip for the use of and promotion to buyers of Australian wool.

South Australian cattle producers have a rare opportunity to offer feedback on the competitiveness of the beef sector as part of a market study by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.

Know your rights and obligations when it comes to fencing
Where work is needed to erect, rebuild or repair boundary fences between neighbouring properties, communication between and consensus between landholders is ideal. However, consensus is not easily achieved, particularly when it comes to cost and who will pay.

Call for brands register to be integrated with PICs
There are so many good reasons why the Brands Act should not have been repealed by the State Government. One solution would be to incorporate the brands system, which is still in card form, into the existing PIC renewal/registration form.

Animal welfare focus of ASAP Conference in Adelaide
Animal welfare means different things to different people. For some, it includes a value system which includes a raft of other ‘values’ which often bundle together phrases such as organic, biodynamic, sustainable, chemical-free, free-range and natural. For producers, it means providing the best possible life for their animals, reducing pain and suffering, maximising health and maintaining productivity.
