The Grassland Society of Southern Australia and the Barossa Improved Grazing Group will hold a Pasture Update at Mt McKenzie Hall on Tuesday, June 18 from 8.30am to 2.30pm.
During the afternoon session participants will head to a local sheep and cattle property and getting muddy looking for dung beetles and talking pasture.
Well known local pasture ‘guru’ Tim Prance will lead the pasture discussion with the local farmer on how to use grazing to get the most out of a pasture based system to improve livestock performance, pasture production and persistence through:
- setting pasture and paddock rotations
- matching pasture to livestock requirements
- annual and perennial pastures
- measuring and monitoring pasture growth rates
- practical, hands on and learning for other farmers
Tim is a partner in T Prance Rural Consulting based at Victor Harbor with 40 years’ experience farm consulting in pasture production and management, pasture utilisation by grazing animals and soil, plant and animal nutrition across both dryland and irrigated farms in SA, Victoria and Tasmania.
