Beef producers urged to apply for Rising Champions Initiative

Saturday, June 22, 2019 by Livestock SA

The Cattle Council of Australia aims to inspire, empower and support young people, who are passionate about the Australian beef industry and to provide them with an opportunity to be directly involved.

It is vital that the cattle producers and stakeholders of tomorrow are involved in the planning that occurs today. That’s why Cattle Council is offering young people passionate about the Australian beef industry the opportunity to have a say and be heard by the decision makers.

The NAB Agribusiness Rising Champion Initiative provides participants with the opportunity to network with some of Australia’s key beef industry leaders and provide contacts that will contribute to participant’s career progression within the beef industry.

Through the professional development workshop and attendance at the National Gala Dinner participant’s are given an insight into the Australian beef industry, Cattle Council of Australia operations, the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources (DAWR) operations and network with industry representatives, sponsors, state farming organisations and parliamentary figures. The opportunity to broaden their interpersonal skills throughout the workshop allows participants to market themselves and learn how to represent themselves in a professional and clear manner.

How do I apply to be part of the NAB Agribusiness Rising Champions Initiative?

Stage 1 How to apply: Applications for the 2020 NAB Agribusiness Rising Champion Initiative are now being accepted. Applications close on June 30, 2019.

Stage 2 State and Territory Selection: If their application is successful, applicants will have an interview to select the state and territory finalist with their State Farming Organisation (SFO) via telephone or face to face (where possible).

Stage 3 Professional Development Workshop: State and territory winners will be invited to Canberra on an all-expenses paid trip to take part in an intensive professional development workshop where they will meet with leaders from across Australian agriculture, Ministers and Government Department staff to discuss the opportunities and challenges for the Australian beef industry and agriculture. Within this intensive workshop finalists develop key professional skills including leadership, communications, media and public speaking. Dates for the workshop are the 12-15 August with additional travel time to/from Canberra.

Stage 4 National Selection and Announcement: State and Territory finalists undergo a final interview process for the selection of the National NAB Agribusiness Rising Champion. The National winner will be announced at the annual NAB Agribusiness Rising Champion Gala event to be held on Wednesday 14 August. The NAB Agribusiness Rising Champion will go onto represent Australia’s beef industry at the International Beef Alliance conference in 2020 and will participate in key industry events throughout the year of their championship.

If you have a strong passion for and commitment to the Australian beef industry, this program is for you. You don’t have to have specific qualifications or own cattle to be part of the NAB Agribusiness Rising Champions Initiative; you just need an open mind and vision to help take the Australian beef industry from strength to strength in the future.

Application forms are available here.
